When is your next vacation, and where are you going?
What aspect of a vacation do you forward to the most?
Describe the vacation when you recovered the most.
During the first 48 hours of vacation, my brain is on high alert because everything is different. The window is on the other side of the bed, the smells are off, and my stuff is elsewhere. Also, there needs to be more obvious work because work is elsewhere.
Somewhere around the second or third day, I accept my fate and begin to believe I am elsewhere, and this begins to fill with novel potential. At this moment, I will be the best possible writer I can be on this trip because I am a perfect combination of fresh perspective and vacation momentum. I am unencumbered by the weight of work. Old half-written pieces become brand-new chapters of a future book.
This period lasts three to five days before I start pining for the comforts of home.
